Otitis Media

Otitis media is an infection of in the middle ear space (behind the eardrum) which is normally an air-filled space.  Common symptoms include irritability, poor appetite, ear pain or pressure, and fevers.  Infection may be preceded by an upper respiratory tract infection such as the common cold.  Children with persistent middle ear fluid after an infection may develop mild hearing loss and speech delay.
